MINUTES OF OCTOBER 23, 2007, MEETING OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL OF VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES

Vote Solar
By consensus, President Betty O'Laughlin will sign Vote Solar’s “Solar Roofs Initiative” petition to Governor Crist on behalf of the Environmental Council.

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the September 25, 2007, meeting were approved.

Edgewater
Betty O’Laughlin will forward Dot Carlson’s emailed report on Edgewater Citizens Alliance for Responsible Development (ECARD)’s judicial setback in his suit against the City.

Soil & Water Conservation District
Betty O’Laughlin reported that Mary Prevatt is the newest member of the Soil & Water Conservation District’s board. There was a discussion of native plant and tree protection ordinances. John Baker noted that 50% of Florida’s potable water goes to the state’s major “crop”: lawns.

Florida Hometown Democracy
Alexa Ross reported that Gordon Williamson is making arrangements to have a Florida Hometown Democracy booth at the Volusia County Fair. Many volunteers are needed to man the exhibit for the 11-day event.

John Baker suggested that the Environmental Council’s Web site feature a list of reputable contractors who offer ecological/green building practices.
